Eric Carle(エリック・カール)作
A very hungry caterpillar eats its way through the days of the week before transforming into a beautiful butterfly. Along the way, kids naturally pick up counting, the days of the week, and the names of foods — a true classic that belongs on every bookshelf.
Ages 1-4 (the die-cut pages make it a favorite even for toddlers)
How this supports bilingual parenting /
Because the book is built around simple vocabulary — numbers, days, foods — it’s an easy way for kids to learn the same concepts in both languages side by side. Tracing the die-cut holes with their finger keeps even the youngest listeners engaged through repeat readings.

Our family’s story /
This was one of the first picture books we ever bought as a family. My kids loved poking their finger through the die-cut holes to “reveal” the caterpillar underneath. When their grandmother sent a Japanese-language copy along with a puzzle, they were thrilled — and we spent hours coloring in caterpillars of every color imaginable.
